My skincare routine…
Morning routine:
I wash my face with cold filtered water (no soap or any other detergents), it wakes me up and wakes up my skin too! Then I apply and gently massage in some face serum, I use the sweet almond or hemp option, as it's not too heavy on the skin.
Most days I don't wear make-up or very little, so there is no need for a primer or any other add-ons, as long as I drink a big glass of filtered water or herbal tea before starting the day.
When I can't get my hands on filtered water I boil tap water the night before and let sit and use it in the morning at room temperature.
I massage or by patting the oils onto my face, this helps bring the blood closer to the skin, helping with cell regeneration and reducing the appearance of wrinkles. Remember, if you are a first-time user of any of my products, don't forget to do a patch test on your inner arm and discontinue use with any reactions.
Evening routine:
I wash my face, this time with warm filtered water, not hot, once again I use no soap or detergents if I’ve worn no makeup during the day. I apply and massage in a slightly heavier olive or macadamia oil serum to ensure my skin is hydrated overnight. Sometimes, I choose to only use the olive or macadamia oil serum two or three times per week, as it can feel heavier on the skin after prolonged daily use. In winter, my skin needs a lot more hydration than in summer, so I use the serum up to four or five nights per week and use the sweet almond or hemp serum the other nights. I don't have any nut allergies, so I don't have to avoid either the sweet almond or macadamia base oil serums. The technique of cycling product or alternating between serum potencies is a great way to stay in tune with what your skin needs, By paying attention, you will notice whether your skin looks/ feels drier or more oily. You will get to know whether you need more or less oil on your skin.
Weekly skin treats:
I like to use a gentle scrub all over my body, including my face, where I take extra care to not scrub too vigorously. This allows skin cell regeneration by exfoliating the dead skin, and allowing the essential oils to re-balance, and invigorate the skin. Doing a weekly body scrub is like a cleanse, it prepares the skin and allows the body oils to be more easily massaged into the skin. The easiest way to massage oil straight into the skin is after a shower, when the skin is still a little damp, this helps the absorption of the oils and takes away that slightly oily feeling, leaving the skin dewy, super soft, and plump. Apply at least one hour before bedtime.
Sun care:
I’m a bit of a morning and late afternoon sun worshipper and love spending time in the sun.
Getting that beneficial vitamin D and other vitamins is super important for me, great for the mind, spirit, and body. Last summer, it was hot and I was caught out in the sun several times. Some days I had that lobster look on the face, neck, and shoulder area, that needed some attention to cool down the skin and stop the burning sensation Plus I wanted to avoid the dreaded peel, also stop that burning then move to the irritating itchy feeling whilst healing.
That's when I created my sun-skin lotion combining aloe vera and peppermint oils. Both are soothing and healing, they help calm down that inflamed/ burning irritating hot feeling. Lavender's properties are amazing for healing burns and helping with scar prevention. I use a base of triple distilled water to be able to use a spritzer nozzle, therefore it's important to shake the bottle before use to combine all the ingredients.
After tending to my sunburnt skin with generous after-sun care applications, the redness and burning sensation were immediately reduced, and in the following days, the skin looked like it was developing colour with no sign of peeling. YAY.
The same lotion came in very handy after blister-burning myself a couple of times while cooking in the kitchen. The healing was super-fast, reducing each of the blisters within a few days, leaving me with little to no scarring. I am excited by this formulation, and with such positive healing results, it is now a must-have in my bathroom cabinet.
Daily physical and mental practice:
Movement, every day no matter how small, keeps the body active, agile and flexible, for stagnation and sitting down for long periods is the enemy. I love walking, for long or short distances, observing the varying landscape, whilst looking at or listening to the animal life during the ever-changing seasons.
Doing simple movements, like yoga for 5-10 minutes a day, stretches the body and mind. I hold myself to that routine every day. Meditation in stillness is my total go-to every day, whether, for 5 minutes, 1/2 hour, or longer, I cannot live without it. It is a practice I’ve developed over the years to reduce life stress, and overthinking, it has also helped overcome many sleepless nights. A 5-minute meditation in bed in the morning and or before heading off to bed is all it takes to improve the attitude of your day.
You will be amazed at how much meditation and movement can enhance or change your inner feelings, and how you look on the outside. Your glow comes from within and reflects out.
